about
Jesus was born in Cuba and raised in Puerto Rico. Growing up, he practiced Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling in both countries. Before becoming an attorney, he was a combat soldier, who deployed to Baghdad, Iraq for 15 months as an Infantryman Sniper with the U.S. Army’s 1st Cavalry Division. At 20 years of age, he was promoted to Sergeant in a combat zone and received multiple combat awards—including the Combat Infantryman Badge. After serving in active duty Army, he joined the U.S. Army Puerto Rico National Guard while going through college and law school. As a guardsman, he mobilized for 18 months with the Puerto Rico Police Department and joined the fight against violent crime, patrolling the island’s most dangerous cities, known for having the highest homicide rate. Currently, Jesus is a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves, where he serves as a Judge Advocate General.
As an Assistant Public Defender at the Miami Public Defenders Office, he developed his trial skills in the courtroom by conducting jury trials and representing hundreds of clients accused of crimes. As an Attorney Advisor at the Department of Justice’s Executive Office for Immigration Review (Immigration Court), he polished his legal research and writing skills by providing legal advice to Immigration Judges in the interpretation and application of highly technical and exceedingly complicated immigration laws. He also mobilized to several immigration detention centers across the southern U.S. border to advise Immigration Judges during the 2016-17 immigration surge.
Jesus is currently an officer in the U.S. Army Reserves, where he practices military law as a Judge Advocate in the Judge Advocate General Corps.
In his private capacity, he practices personal injury law. His life experiences propel him in court to fearlessly fight for his clients. He is fluent in English and Spanish and enjoys serving the Hispanic community. As a Spanish speaker, he helps those clients who do not speak English in understanding their case, the judicial process, and in obtaining the best result possible.
In college, he graduated a bachelor’s degree in Criminology with high honors. He also graduated law school (Juris Doctor) and a Master of Laws (Legum Magister) with high honors as well. He has studied criminal and immigration law at length and has been trained by the Public Defender Offices of Puerto Rico, San Diego, and Miami. He is fully bilingual and has conducted court procedures in both Spanish and English in Puerto Rico and in the United States.
